CHARACTER NAME: Sissel
CHARACTER AGE: 10
SERIES: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
CHRONOLOGY: End of the game
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Yes! Randomize who he ends up with.
BACKGROUND: AS A WARNING from here on out this app is super-spoilery, since Sissel is coming from endgame and all.
A link to Sissel's profile on the Ghost Trick wiki but I will also summarize because he is the main character and you would literally have to read a plot summary of the entire game to get his role in it.
Sissel's story starts one evening, when he dies. But fortunately, dying isn't the end of his existence, because he lingers in the world as a ghost! Except he has amnesia and doesn't even know his name, much less why he died. All he has is his appearance, since he is right by a dead body and all, so it has to be his body. As he is pondering all of this, he sees a young woman get murdered right by where he died. Then a talking lamp named Ray tells Sissel that he has a strange power called 'ghost tricks' that he can use to save the girl's life.
Sissel's Ghost Trick is that he can possess objects and make them do 'tricks', such as making an umbrella open, or making a lamp swivel around, or things like that. Along with his power to 'rewind time' to 4 minutes before someone's death, Sissel is able to save the girl's life. From there, he learns that he cannot rewind his own time, and he has until morning to solve the mystery of his murder.
Sissel decides that following this girl (who is named Lynne) would be the best bet, since she was apparently meeting with him that night. From there, he meets several other characters, all of whom are tied up in a specific "incident from ten years ago". And they all keep dying for some reason. One by one, Sissel saves their lives, and gradually gets more information about this incident, as well as his part in it.
Eventually, Sissel finds out that there is another man who looks identical to him, and that other man possesses ghost powers as well. This man, named Yomiel, is up to no good. In fact, he is the one who has been engineering everyone's deaths! This makes Sissel doubt that he is who he thought he is, and it makes him pursue Yomiel to find out the truth.
Finally, by the last chapter of the game, the truth is revealed: The body in the junkyard, the one that Sissel had thought was his own, actually belongs to Yomiel. Yomiel is technically dead, having died ten years in the past, during "the incident from ten years ago". He was arrested for a crime he did not commit, and when he ran he ended up getting struck by a falling meteor and dying. Part of the meteor lodged in his body, though, and gave him his ghost powers. From there, he spent ten long years, trying to get revenge on all of the people involved in the incident (the detectives who chased him down, the girl who got in his way while he was running, etc.).
But Sissel, he has stopped Yomiel's revenge at every turn, and now he has a chance to change the past entirely. See, Sissel's 'rewind time' power counts from the moment the person died, and that 'moment' for Yomiel was ten years in the past. So Sissel, Yomiel, and a couple other tagalongs go back, change Yomiel's fate, and thus prevent Yomiel from dying in the first place. This prevents everything that followed as well: all of the revenge, all of the murders, all of the crimes and bad things Yomiel did after dying. It essentially creates a new future, one free of all the malicious acts Yomiel caused.
Then, right at the end, we find out the truth of who Sissel is. There was a kitten in the park that night, and after Yomiel died he possessed that kitten for a while. Then, once he got his own body back, he adopted the kitten and kept it as a pet. That cat was with Yomiel on the night at the start of the game, and accidentally died right at the beginning of the game (a bullet meant for Yomiel hit the cat instead). But, because the cat died right near Yomiel's body, which had a fragment of the meteor in it, the cat got ghost trick powers as well. This cat is who Sissel really is. And it's when he remembers that he is a cat that he remembers all of his past: the years spent with Yomiel, the plans Yomiel had, and how he ended up dying in the first place.
The game ends with Yomiel going to jail for running away from the police, and Sissel being adopted by the detective involved in the whole incident. But, in a twist of fate, the meteor fragment that was supposed to hit Yomiel ended up hitting Sissel instead. So Sissel stays a small kitten and keeps his ghost trick powers, and lives with the detective and his family from there on out.
Sissel basically causes everything to go horribly right, since he is a spanner in the works for Yomiel's plan of revenge. Going through the events of canon help make him a better person (cat?) too. Initially he thinks only of himself and his want to get his memory back. But as he gets to know the people involved with the "incident from ten years ago", he finds himself warming up to them and actually caring about them.
Sissel is close to pretty much everyone in his canon, but there are four people in particular he has strong relationships with:
Yomiel - Sissel and Yomiel traveled together for ten years, and they have a long history together. (everyone who went back to save Yomiel's life remembers the 'bad future', so Sissel remembers these years)
Lynne - the detective Sissel saves first, and actually several times over the course of the game. Since they have to work together a lot, Sissel grows fond of her quickly. Also, in the good future, Sissel sees Lynne frequently, though Lynne does not remember the events of the bad future, since she didn't go back in time with the group.
Jowd - the detective involved in the "incident from ten years ago", and one of the group that goes back in time to save Yomiel. Because of this, he remembers the bad future, and he is the one who takes in Sissel in the good future. Sissel is also presumably close to Jowd's family, since he would have lived with them for ten years in the good future.
Missile - the TOP POMERANIAN and the other animal in this game that gets ghost trick powers. He goes back in time with the group, so he remembers the bad future along with the others. Sissel and Missile worked together several times to save people's lives, and Sissel is fond of Missile. Well, as fond as a cat can be of a dog.
PERSONALITY: Sissel is pretty calm. Even in tense situations he can keep a cool head, and that lets him think through problems instead of panicking. Oftentimes he ends up being the most level-headed person present, even though he isn't technically a 'person'. Despite being the 'adult' in many situations, he is actually pretty easygoing and laid back. He's alright with seeing how things play out before taking action (though he is sure to always take action in the end). Similarly, if things take multiple tries to get right, he doesn't lose his cool or get frustrated. He just keeps trying until whatever he was trying to do succeeds.
Sissel is also pretty easy to get along with. He's polite at the very least to everyone he meets, and he is friendly with anyone who isn't actively trying to hurt him or kill someone. He also has a bad habit of getting involved in other people's business and either messing everything up or making everything go right somehow. And even in non-serious situations, he is very supportive of others, often encouraging them even when he doesn't quite understand what they're after or how much something means to them.
He has a strong sense of 'must help others', and sometimes he jumps in to help people without fully considering the consequences of his actions. Usually this turns out alright, and in fact he is of the mind "it'll all turn out alright in the end, just go with it." He just can't stand to see someone in trouble and not help them. Sissel is also painfully loyal to those whom he befriends. In canon, he gives up on a chance to find out his true identity (one of the main driving forces in the game) because he would have to betray one of his newfound friends to do it. Even though his own needs are very important to him, he won't harm someone else to fulfill those needs.
Sissel is a very analytical kind of person. He likes to watch things and see how they work. He is also pretty good at figuring out puzzles, especially 'butterfly effect' puzzles. He can make small changes to an area (say, opening an umbrella that floats down to the ground) that snowball into large changes (like said umbrella floating past a guy with a gun, startling him, and thus giving their captive a chance to escape). Not only can he do that, but he is a quick thinker, and can figure out solutions in a pinch.
Sissel also has absolutely no word-to-mouth filter. He says what is on his mind, often without realizing that he is actually saying it. He does get embarrassed by it after the fact, especially if he accidentally said something very private, but it's still hard for him to control that part of him. Being a cat for so long, he is not used to people actually understanding him, so he never had to censor himself before.
Additionally, there are a few very specific problems Sissel has, thanks to being a cat. For one, has never been to school, so he lacks pretty much all school-based skills: reading, writing, math, and so forth. Even really basic stuff he does not know, and he will had to learn a lot of 'normal' human skills, like how to cook and clean.
Sissel also lacks an understanding of a lot of concepts that humans already have a grasp on. For example, during the course of the game, he had to actually learn what 'death' meant, because he just did not understand what it meant to be dead. He also recognizes a lot of human things, but not necessarily what their names are, or what they are used for. (headphones are one thing that come up in the game. Sissel knows that noise comes out of it, but not really what the point of it was.)
But despite his shortcomings, Sissel is willing to try and overcome them. He's not the most enthusiastic of people, but he still cares, and ultimately all he wants to do is help people.
POWER:
Transformation: Sissel will be turned into a human upon entry into the game. His human appearance will be the one he took in canon, so he will look identical to Yomiel (except with more smiling, because Yomiel is a total drag). But one of his powers will be to turn into his cat form and back.
Ghost Powers: (canon power) These are the powers he gained because he died in the presence of a fragment of the Temsik meteor (the second time around, when it embedded in his body). There are a few that fall under this category, so I will explain them all.
Possession - Sissel can leave his body (his body will appear as if it is dead, though it will still technically be 'alive' and not decompose) and possess objects. Using this power, he can jump from object to object as long as they are within range, and move around an area that way.
Tricks - Sissel can do a 'trick' on an object. This is different for every object. A ball might roll across the floor, an umbrella might open, a music box might make music, or a light might swivel around. Generally speaking, tricks are small movements or changes. You can watch this video here to see a bit of how possession and tricks work.
Dial - If Sissel possesses a phone, he can make it dial any phone number he knows. This is only shown on landline phones in-game, but could possibly work on cell phones.
Trace - Sissel can possess a phone and travel along phone lines to another location. This only works over landlines, as he has to physically travel over the wire to get to the new location.
Talk - Sissel can communicate with the spirits of the dead, as well as with people who have died but have been brought back to life via his Tricks.
Rewind Time - Sissel can go back in time to four minutes prior to someone's death, but only if the person has been dead for less than 24 hours. He can also talk other spirits along with him when he goes back, but they have to be either dead people or people who also have Ghost Powers. Any changes to the timeline are remembered by him, the person whose time he rewound, and whomever went along with him to the past. Everyone else only remembers the new future. (I am okay with this part of his ghost powers getting nerfed if you want it gone, because it is pretty damn powerful)
Telepathy: For Sissel's last power, I would like to expand his 'Talk' ghost power to full telepathy, so he can communicate with anyone, not just with the dead/those who have been brought back to life.

Hi.
[He is not sure if this is even working or if he is doing it right, but he might as well try. Worst case scenario, he just has to push a few buttons and try again.]
Apparently this is a place called Florida, and I'm going to live here now? Not that I'm complaining, it's nice and warm here, but I did have a family back home and all. [He can't help but grin at his own stupid joke right there, and the grin carries on through the rest of what he has to say.]
Though I guess they wouldn't call me here if they didn't need me, huh? Well, if I can at least get a phone call home or something, then I don't mind sticking around for a bit. Especially since they asked so nicely and all.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE: Being a human kind of sucked.
Well, okay, it wasn't that bad. Walking upright was interesting, and being able to do things with his hands was cool too, but he didn't particularly like the responsibilities that came with being a human. Working a job? Learning how to read and write? Cooking, cleaning, and all those other boring house jobs? No thank you, he would much rather go back to being a cat full-time if he could.
But no, he couldn't just shack it up with a family and pretend to be their loving house pet. Even if he could turn into a cat whenever he wanted, he was still actually a human now. And since people knew him as a human, he had lots of human responsibilities, and people would notice if he stopped doing them. Darn friends and their habit of actually caring about him.
He felt his communicator vibrate in his pocket, so he pulled it out to look at it. It was a third angry text from his boss, saying that his shift began an hour ago and demanding that he get in to work asap. Sissel just shook his head and slipped the communicator back in his pocket as he said "Calm down, old man, I'll get there." Being 'on time' was another human behavior he did not like that much.
Then, he heard a scream from down the street. He looked up just in time to see a thief running away from a woman, carrying what appeared to be the woman's purse. Petty thievery, on his watch? "Always someone in need," Sissel said to himself, though he didn't sound bothered by the thought of taking time out of his day to play hero.
Grinning, Sissel stepped into the shadows of a nearby alley. As soon as he was out of sight, his body began to change, becoming much, much smaller. By now the change was second-nature to him, and he could perform it effortlessly. Within seconds, he darted out of the alley, though this time he was on four legs, not two.
An interesting fact about cats: despite being domesticated, they still have a strong hunting instinct. And in a city where 'bring the bad guys in alive' is encouraged, the stage is set for a hunt. Sissel pursued the thief, darting down the streets and around the corners. Just like his feline ancestors did long before he was born, Sissel stalked his prey, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Then he saw his chance: another alley, this one with a tall fence blocking it off. Sissel jumped forward, landing on the crook's right shoulder. This made the man jump in surprise, and he darted off to the left, away from Sissel but down that alley. As the thief tried to climb the fence, Sissel darted behind a trash can, so that he could leave his body behind without it being disturbed.
The man tried to climb the fence, but a sudden creaking sound behind him caught his attention, and he looked back. While he was looking, a trash can lid went rolling across the ground, bumping into a ladder, which then fell on the thief's head. Howling in pain, the man stumbled off of the fence and fell to the ground. Finally, a sheet came fluttering down from a clothesline above, covering up the thief. As much as the thief struggled, he just could not pull the sheet off of himself.
Moments later, a call came in to the police station from a nearby payphone. The dispatch officer could hear the shouts of the thief struggling with the sheet, so cops were sent out to investigate. Within minutes, the thief was apprehended and the woman got her purse back.
Sissel ended up being two hours late for work that day.
FINAL NOTES: Sissel has a fragment of the Temsik meteor lodged in his body. The Temsik Meteor has amazing powers (it is what gives people Ghost Powers, if they die within range of it), and because a fragment is stuck in him, he gets a few perks from it. He does not age, he is invulnerable (all wounds instantly heal. In canon, an autopsy couldn't be performed on Yomiel because his body kept healing too quickly), and if anybody dies near him they would get Ghost Powers as well. If you want the fragment gone from his body when he arrives I would be cool with that, or if you want him to have it (or to have him arrive with it in him but it gets confiscated by the military or something) I am okay with that too.
